At 750+ meters elevation, these are old gobelet-trained vines with an average age of 40+ years. After a three-week cold maceration in tank, 4-month spontaneous fermentation and aging in French oak 500L demi-muids bring forth a reductive, fresh style of wine that highlights this unique limestone terroir.

In the Iregua Valley, this clay-and-pebbles soil vineyard is planted of 45+ year old vines at 750 meters above sea level. After the manual harvest, the grapes go through an artisanal and manual process in the winery where the vertical pressing and skin maceration play a key role. This allow a very clean and high quality juice. The fermentation is spontaneous on indigenous yeasts and carried out in oak, slowly and at extremely low temperatures for 4 months. Given the fact that wine has a memory, this process makes it capable of a long cellaring and a surprising evolution in the bottle.

Daniel Rodriquez began Panorámico with his cousin, Alejandro, focusing this project on reclaiming tiny parcels of old vines in La Rioja Alta. They farm several half-hectare parcels of indigenous varieties across the high elevation “Alto Najerilla” and “majuelos” (old vines, many over a century old) in the more complex and structured terroir of the “Iregua Valley”.

In addition to organic farming, hand-harvesting, and rigorous selection, these wines feature everything else you’d want from a true vigneron — particularly Daniel’s aversion to American oak and preference for 500-liter lightly toasted French oak demi-muids that elevate the terroir and offer Rioja with juicy, drinkable fun.
