World-renowned Crozes-Hermitage producer Alain Graillot and sons Maxime & Antoine looked north to Beaujolais for a new winemaking venture, acquiring Domaine de Fa in 2013, with their first vintage appearing the following year. The family had a long-term home in the area so making wine in the region was a natural progression.
Farming according to organic and biodynamic principles, their approach mirrors their style of winemaking in the Northern Rhône, looking for similar freshness and perfume from Gamay.
Roche Guillon is a single vineyard, one of the highest in elevation in the Fleurie appellation. The vines are rooted in pink granitic sand mixed through with limestone and clay, a soil known locally as 'gore'.
Known as the ‘Queen’ of Beaujolais Crus, AOC Fleurie is home to a collection of rolling granite hillsides sandwiched between the appellations of Morgon and Moulin-à-Vent.
This beautiful wine is characterized by profound aromas of black cherries, hints of fresh sage, and elegantly perfumed floral notes. It’s complex and luxurious, lipsmacking and spicy, on the slightly more powerful side for Fleurie with some tannin and wet stone minerality on the finish. Decant and enjoy with a slight chill.
