Cheval Noir (Maison Mähler-Besse), Merlot, Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux, France 2020

100% Merlot from old vines.

The Mähler-Besse Cheval Noir combines roundness with rich and fruity aromas. A fine, complex nose which combines ripe, red fruits with notes of grilled toast and spices. In the mouth it is rich, structured, and powerful, perfectly balanced with a long finish.

Since 1895, the name of Cheval Noir is one of the oldest of the region of Bordeaux. Purchased in 1937, Cheval Noir is the first estate of the Mahler-Besse family whose domains, among the most beautiful of the Bordeaux region, currently span Haut-Medoc, Saint Emilion and Saint-Estephe appellations.
"Cheval noir" derives from an elegant and powerful black horse that worked the vineyards in the 19th century.
