Château Coufran, Haut-Médoc, Bordeaux, France 2009
Château Coufran, Haut-Médoc, Bordeaux, France 2009
85% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon
Located in Haut-Médoc, Château Coufran is an atypical property of the appellation. Its unusual character stems from the blend of its wine, which is dominated by Merlot in the primarily Cabernet-heavy Left Bank. This unique feature has earned Château Coufran the nickname "Pomerol du Medoc".
The deep crimson 2009 features aromas of blueberry and blackcurrant, accompanied by the finest of woodsy notes. Full and ample on the palate, the wine reveals concentrated substance, backed up by tender tannins endowing it with great length.
Château Coufran Haut-Médoc is a delicious wine reflecting its outstanding vintage by its remarkable complexity and rare tannic finesse.
The Château Coufran vineyard is located to the north of Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne, a town neighbouring Saint-Estèphe in the Pauillac area. It stretches across a hillside, with its highest point at 21 metres in altitude. It is composed of a single 76-hectare block, with soils primarily made up of gravel and clay. The average age of the vines is 50 years.
