Bàrbara Forés, White Grenache "El Quintà" Terra Alta DOP, Catalonia, Spain 2022
The word Quintà refers to a series of usually small plots of land belonging to the same owner. In this case "El Quintà" is produced from two small vineyards known as the Cometa and Coll de Batea. The Cometa and Coll de Batea grow revered White Grenaches planted before 1948 that give small, golden, loose grains of fruit. The soil is a fine sand of a granular nature where silica has sedimented in a limestone environment forming the characteristic panal soil.
The vinification process involved a 24-hour cold maceration on the skins, followed by fermentation in French oak barrels from Allier, ranging in size from 500 to 600 liters, using natural yeasts. The wine was then aged in the same barrels for 8 months on the lees, without any clarification.
Barbara Fores, the daughter of a wine merchant, began bottling wine with her son in the late 1800s. The estate practices organic and regenerative farming, with a strong focus on enhancing biodiversity in and around the vineyards.
