Domaine Hubert Lignier, Pinot Noir, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Aux Combottes, Côte de Nuits, Burgundy, France 2018
Domaine Hubert Lignier, Pinot Noir, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Aux Combottes, Côte de Nuits, Burgundy, France 2018
This is one of those rare 1er Crus that, geographically, is literally surrounded by Grand Cru vineyards. In this case, it is encircled by Latricières-Chambertin to the north, Charmes-Chambertin to the east and Clos de la Roche on its southern and western sides. Obviously, production is very limited. In many vintages, the wine offers even more spice and mineral intensity than the Seuvrées, with an imposing, grand-cru-like density on the palate.
70-80% destemmed. 20-30% new oak. Vines planted in 1957. The soil, lying on a gentle slope, is composed of sand, clay and silt.
The Gevrey “Aux Combottes” is quite special. In all the years we have been purchasing this wine, it has never failed to delight and satisfy. Concentrated and elegant, deep and complex. The wine shows even better after a few years of patient aging.
