Hospices de Beaune, Volnay Santenots 1er Cru Cuvee Gauvin, Cote de Beaune 2017 ( Eléve Coche Dury)
Hospices de Beaune, Volnay Santenots 1er Cru Cuvee Gauvin, Cote de Beaune 2017 ( Eléve Coche Dury)
Very dense purple color with a black center. Really intense, yet showing exceptional balance, an extremely backward nose but the class exudes from the start. Some blackcurrant notes are tied in with fresh raspberries. A beautiful thread of seamless concentrated but not massive fruit, lovely integration with the acidity, pure and positive throughout. Freshness is the driver of this wine, on the nose as in the mouth. Small red and black fruits, a dash of mint and a beautiful precision are the signature elements of this noteworthy wine. Bernard Gauvain is one of the Hospices’ most generous benefactors, who left all his worldly goods to the Hospice de la Charité in 1804. The wines coming from its Volnay-Santenots hillsides constitute one of the greatest glories of the Hospices de Beaune. Often amongst the first to ripen, the vines give wines which are rich, complex, elegant and long.
