Domaine U Stiliccionu, Sciaccarello "Antica" Ajaccio, Corsica, France 2017

100% Sciaccarello from granitic soil. "Antica" translates to "ancient" in the local Corsican dialect and is a reference to "old school" styled Corsican reds. This indulgent red from windswept vineyards is bursting with aromas of violets and ripe strawberries, displaying an alluring, silky texture cut by bright red fruit and lifted acidity. There are hints of wild herbs and ripe citrus that linger on the palate, lending the wine depth and nuance. Sumptuous and easy to drink.

Winemaker Sebastien Poly is proud of the fact that Domaine U Stiliccionu is one of only five certified biodynamic wineries in Corsica. Sebastian obsesses over purity in his wines and attributes his successes to a dedication to farming well and managing precise vinifications. His careful work both in the vineyard and in his cellar has allowed him to turn experiments with using no SO2 into a consistent part of his winemaking.

The results so far have been stunning. Each of Sebastien's wines are true to their island roots while still maintaining great freshness and prioritizing elegance over power. This wine is a unique example of an undervalued grape, with a strong sense of place, that delivers immense pleasure in the glass.
