Poco a Poco, Chardonnay, Ghianda Rose Vineyard, Mendocino County, California 2022
100% Chardonnay
The Poco a Poco Chardonnay offers aromas of lemon, orange zest, and honey dew, with a pleasant minerality. The palate has good acidity but with richness to provide a seamless mouthfeel and clean finish.
Biodynamically farmed. Vines planted from 1985-1995. The soil is sand and gravel. Fermented with natural yeasts in neutral barrel. Undergoes full malolactic fermentation in barrel, and is aged for 7 months in neutral barrel. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
The forest of Redwood and Fir that surrounds the vineyard protects the vines from strong winds and contamination from other vineyards. Being on the western edge of the Russian River Valley provides an ideal climate for Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Zinfandel. This cool climate makes fruit that is naturally high in acid, at the same time the sugars stay low enough to make a balanced wine that ages gracefully.
