Avignonesi's "Grifi" is an incredible blend where Sangiovese’s freshness perfectly merges with the Cabernet Sauvignon’s backbone. This wine represents a fine example of a great blend for aging.
The assembly of two such different personalities such as Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon blend together, giving this wine a unique character. Dark ruby red in color with purple reflections, the nose opens with notes of blueberries, blackberries and incense going up to sandalwood and graphite.
In the mouth it is dense and complex with hints of blackberry jam and cinnamon. It then evolves like a balsamic explosion supported by good acidity. The lively tannin all over the palate accompanies the savory and persistent finish.
2019 was a great year for wine. Warm weather albeit not dry, was the background to a great production in terms of quantity and quality. With just the right amount of rainfall, work in the vineyards never stopped and great attention was placed to the grapes to balance warmth, rain and soil.
Separate vinification for the two varieties in stainless steel vats using indigenous yeasts selected from the estate’s pied de cuve. Alcoholic fermentation with maceration on the skins lasted 25-30 days. The wine ages for 24 months in oak casks and barriques.
