Matthieu Barret, Syrah "No Wine's Land" Côtes du Rhône, Northern Rhône, France 2017
The vines average 40 years, on clayey-calcareous and silty soil, in a unique position between the Cornas and the Saint-Joseph AOCs. The wine ages 13 months in concrete.
Domaine du Coulet is located in Cornas, in the Rhône Valley. It has belonged to Matthieu Barret since 1998. He offers two distinct ranges of wines which are produced on the same convictions: the “Domaine” range which comes exclusively from grapes from the Domaine du Coulet vineyard, very oriented on the expression of minerality and of the terroirs of Cornas.
His other, eponymous range is based on partnering with other producers and sharing their grapes. No wine’s land is the "gourmand" bottling of the Domaine: it is a more digestible and fruity expression of Syrah. Drink this for a Cornas at a Côtes-du-Rhône price.
